The killing of three men by police officers reportedly led to widespread violent protests in the Port of Spain on Tuesday, June 30. Several roads were blocked by protesters in the area, with reports of fires being set and numerous clashes between protesters and police. In response, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service issued a red alert in the area, warning citizens not to visit Port of Spain. The shooting of the three men took place on Saturday, June 27, with police alleging they pulled out a firearm when confronted, although protesters claimed this to be false.
