Event

A landslide caused by recent flooding left at least 96 people dead and numerous others missing in Hpakan (Kachin state) on Thursday morning, July 2. The landslide, triggered by torrential rain, reportedly hit a Jade mine in the area. Rescue operations were underway as of Thursday afternoon.

Additional landslides are possible in the area as further heavy rainfall is forecast over the coming days.  

Advice

Individuals in the area are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid the area of the landslide, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
