Flooding was reported in parts of Mumbai and Thane (Maharashtra state) on Monday, July 6, amid heavy rains. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that areas of Mumbai and Thane district received over 100mm (4 inches) of rainfall in 24 hours and warned that further heavy rains are forecast in the near term. Increased rainfall was also reported in Raigad and Palghar districts. The Powai Lake has reportedly overflowed due to heavy downpours, and the community of Koli has appealed for help from authorities. Traffic has also been diverted on the Andheri Subway due to inundation, and parts of the Western Express Highway have also flooded, causing disruption on the Jogeshwari Vikhroli road.
Additional flooding and disruptions as a result of further heavy rains are possible in the near term.
