Pakistan: Grenade attack in Karachi kills one on July 8

Pakistan News Alert

Fatal grenade attack reported in Bilawal Shah Goth area of Karachi on July 8; security operations likely in near term

TIMEFRAME expected from 7/8/2020, 12:00 AM until 7/10/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Karachi). COUNTRY/REGION Karachi

At least one person was killed in a grenade attack on Wednesday, July 8, in the Bilawal Shah Goth area of northeastern Karachi. The attack is reported to have targeted a bakery in the area, owned by a former Pakistan Rangers member who was killed in the blast. The unidentified attackers are believed to have arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and fled before security forces could respond to the incident.

Pakistan Rangers personnel have cordoned off the area around the bakery and localized disruption is likely in the Bilawal Shah Goth area in the near term.

Grenade and small arms attacks targeting security forces occur with some frequency in Karachi, as well as other areas of Sindh province. Five such attacks were reported in June, including in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Liaquatabad, and Manzil Pump areas.

Those in Karachi are advised to monitor developments, anticipate localized disruption and security operations, and heed any instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
