An explosion at a fireworks factory in Deyang city (Sichuan province) on Wednesday, July 8, has resulted in the injury of multiple people with reports of others still missing as the Deyang fire service continues emergency operations. The initial blast occurred late in the evening (local time) and has forced some 100 firefighters from 10 fire rescue stations to retreat from dousing the blaze as continuous explosions have occurred throughout the night. It is not immediately known how many people were in the building and vicinity at the time of the initial explosion.
Localized travel disruption is likely in the Deyang city area in the near term as emergency response and clean up operations continue around the accident site.
