Recent heavy rainfall in Sindhupalchok district has caused widespread flooding and landslides, claiming the lives of at least two people with more than 20 others missing as of Thursday, July 9. According to a local district police official, more than 33 houses were watched away in the floods and many more people are expected to be found as rescue teams from the Nepalese Army and Armed Police Force continue to conduct search and rescue operations. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has reported that the current monsoon season has been the deadliest in more than a decade.

Further rain is forecast over the coming week and could cause further disruption to transportation and businesses.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
