On Saturday, July 11, youth group organizations held a large rally in Owerri (Imo state) in protest of persistent electrical disruptions in the region. The discontent towards the Imo State Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) was reportedly in regards to transformer replacements that have taken more than a year to replace. The group, numbering more than 1000, was largely peaceful as they demonstrated their grievances outside the primary entrance to the facility. A similar protest is expected on Sunday, 12 July.
Individuals in Owerri are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
