Protest scheduled in Dakar on July 14 to denounce lack of action on government reforms; avoid all gatherings as a precaution

The Union of Justice Workers (SYTJUST) will hold a demonstration in Dakar on Thursday, July 14, over dissatisfaction with the government's perceived lack of progress in implementing reforms agreed in October 2018. Participants will meet at 11:00 (local time) on Boulevard General de Gaulle. The demonstration will likely be peaceful in nature, but a heightened security presence is possible in the vicinity of the gathering. 

Separately, a 72-hour strike from Monday, July 13 through Wednesday, July 15, has been called for.

Localized disruptions to transportation are to be expected in the vicinity of any demonstration site. 


Individuals in Dakar are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid the area, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, and adhere to all advice issued by the local authorities.
