A complex attack targeted the office of the National Security Directorate in Aybak (Samangan province) on Monday, July 13. Reports suggest that a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) was detonated near the entrance of the office, and a number of gunmen then proceeded to clash with government troops as they entered the compound. Early reports suggest that at least 43 civilians and dozens of members of the security forces have been wounded. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Security operations in the vicinity of the compound are ongoing.
