Colombo police deployed tear gas to disperse protesters near a station in Angulana on Thursday, July 16, after the group began throwing stones and other objects at officers. The incident is reportedly in response over the recent death of a local man at a traffic checkpoint in the area. Access roads in the area have been closed off to vehicular traffic until the crowds subside.

Further associated protests may occur in the coming days.
