Event

On Friday, July 17, Chinese authorities in the provinces of Anhui, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang declared flood alerts as continued heavy rainfall threatens to swell lakes and rivers in the region. In Wuhan, authorities have warned residents to take precautions as water levels in rivers have exceeded their maximum guaranteed safety level. The Three Gorges Dam reservoir in Hubei province has recorded water levels more than 10 m (33 ft) higher than its initial warning level, with a further rise likely in the near term.

Disruptions to travel and infrastructure in the region are anticipated over the coming days.

Advice

Those in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
