TIMEFRAME expected from 7/18/2020, 12:00 AM until 7/20/2020, 11:59 PM (Africa/Lagos). COUNTRY/REGION Katsina state, Malumfashi

On Saturday, July 18, a bomb attack in Yammama village, Malumfashi Local Government Area (Katsina State), killed at least five children and injured at least six other people. Those injured are said to be in a critical condition and have been taken to Malumfashi General Hospital. Currently, no group has taken responsibility for the attack; however, bandit attacks are common in Katsina State. Police investigations are ongoing.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the area in the near term. Further attacks throughout Katsina state are likely.

Bandit attacks have become an increasing threat in northwest Nigeria in recent years amid rising communal tensions, with Katsina state having seen repeated outbreaks of such violence. High-profile security operations have previously had little success in reducing violence in the northwest.

Those in Katsina state are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to all directives and advice issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Nigeria remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
