Clashes were reported during planned nationwide protests taking place in Conakry and other cities on Monday, July 20. The US Embassy in Conakry issued a security alert on Monday after flashes of tensions had been reported in the Rue Le Prince sector between Hamdallaye and Bambeto circles, and the district of Wanindara. Overland disruptions were also reported as small groups of demonstrators erected unauthorized roadblocks in attempts to disrupt vehicular traffic. Further media sources indicate that at least 20 people were wounded and dozens of others arrested during the unrest. The National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) opposition party called for nationwide anti-government protests on Monday, calling for the resignation of President Alpha Condé.
Further protests and associated disruptions are possible in the medium term.
