A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) blast at a market in Turbat (Balochistan province) killed one and injured another seven people on Tuesday, July 21. The explosion took place outside a shop in Turbat Bazaar. Those injured were taken to a nearby hospital and the police have cordoned off the area.
A heightened security presence is to be expected in the affected area over the coming hours.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qai'da (AQ), Islamic State (IS) affiliates, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Afghan Taliban, and other Islamist militant groups continue to pose a threat throughout the country despite continued army offensives to push them from their strongholds near the Afghan border. Pakistan has suffered numerous deadly attacks in recent months, notably in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
Those in Turbat are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
