The Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that the 2020 Eid al-Adha will begin Friday, July 31. Pakistani authorities announced that a three-day public holiday will be in effect during this time. Authorities have called on citizens to respect barriers measures currently in place in an effort to curb the further spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Significant disruption to public sector services should be expected throughout the celebrations.

Context

Eid al-Adha is one of the most widely observed holidays in Islam and coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. According to Islamic customs, worshippers usually slaughter a sheep or goat to share the meat with their family and neighbors.
