Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Democracy Monument in Bangkok on Saturday, July 25, to demonstrate for equal rights and treatment for the LGBTQ+ community. The demonstrations were held with calls for the government of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, who ousted a democratically-elected government six years ago, to step down. Thailand's cabinet backed a civil partnership bill earlier in July that would recognize same-sex unions with the majority of the same rights as married couples.
The protest passed off peacefully and without incident.
Individuals in Bangkok are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
