On Sunday, July 26, security forces reportedly killed a Maoist militant during an operation in the Visakhapatnam district (Andhra Pradesh state). The security forces were acting on a tip-off regarding the whereabouts of militants near Madugula when they were fired upon by the militants. Further operations were launched to track down the remaining militants.
Further security operations and militant activity are possible in Visakhapatnam district over the near term.
Maoist insurgents (Naxalites) are active in rural/remote areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and West Bengal states, as well as in the border region in Andhra Pradesh and in remote parts of Bihar and West Bengal states.
Individuals in the area are advised to monitor developments to the situation and remain vigilant for potential militant activity, particularly if planning on traveling to rural areas of the abovementioned states.
