Police reportedly fired tear gas and utilized live fire to disperse crowds of protesters in Garissa (Garissa County) on Saturday, July 25. The protesters had reportedly gathered to demonstrate against police violence, following the shooting of two civilians by police on Saturday morning, when the police attempted to disperse the crowds. There have been no reports of any injuries or arrests following the demonstration.

A heightened security presence is to be anticipated in Garissa in the near term, and further demonstrations over the issue are possible in the coming days.  


Those in the area are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all large public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
