On Sunday, July 26, at least two large explosions were reported at the Al-Saqr military base, south of Baghdad. According to local reports, the explosions occurred at weapons depots on the base. The reasons for the explosions are unclear, however, similar explosions at the depots have been due to poor storage of ammunition.
The Iraqi Federal Police forces and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) are the primary operators of the base.
Individuals in the area are advised to monitor developments, avoid the affected area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments. The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
