Afghanistan: Presidential visit causes traffic disruption in Kabul's PD10 July 28

Afghanistan News Alert

Traffic disruption reported in Kabul's Police District 10 (PD10) due to presidential visit on July 28; avoid the area

TIMEFRAME expected from 7/28/2020, 12:00 AM until 7/30/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kabul). COUNTRY/REGION Kabul

The Afghan National Security Forces (ANDSF) have placed roadblocks around Kabul's Police District 10 (PD10) due to President Ashraf Ghani's visit, causing increased traffic congestion as of 13:30 (local time) on Tuesday, July 28. The president is visiting the area of the big flag in PD10's Wazir Akbar Khan (WAK) area. It remains unknown until when roadblocks will be in place. There is an elevated risk of indirect fire (IDF) in the area until the visit has concluded as President Ghani has been targeted in IDF attacks over recent weeks when public visits were announced ahead of schedule.

Localized disruptions are expected in the area over the coming hours; avoid the area as a precaution.

Individuals in Kabul are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments. The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
