Pakistan: Nationwide demonstrations planned against controversial bill July 31

Pakistan News Alert

Tehrik-e-Jafaria group call for demonstrators to protest nationwide against controversial bill on July 31; avoid all protests

TIMEFRAME expected from 7/30/2020, 12:00 AM until 8/1/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Karachi). COUNTRY/REGION Pakistan

The Tehrik-e-Jafaria group has called upon supporters to demonstrate nationwide on Friday, July 31, to denounce the recently passed Tahaffuz-e-Bunyad-e Islam Bill 2020. Media sources suggest a peaceful day of protest will be observed across the country. Specific locations and timings were not yet available. Previous demonstrations and gatherings have taken place after afternoon congregational prayers. Demonstration hot spots include public squares and parks.

Localised disruptions and a heightened security presence should be anticipated around protest sites. A ban on gatherings remains in place amid the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and therefore security personnel will likely to present to intervene and disperse gatherings.

Those in Pakistan are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, anticipate a heightened security presence, and obey instructions issued by local authorities.
