Demonstrators have called for large gatherings in Berlin on Saturday, August 1. Participants, including alleged neo-Nazis and anti-vaccination activists, seek to denounce coronavirus disease (COVID-19) measures, among other grievances. Demonstrators will gather from 10:30 (local time) on Unter den Linden before marching to Straße des 17 Juni, and then on to the Victory Column. Several counter-demonstrations are also planned in the city on the same day. Civil society and anti-fascist groups will gather at Brandenburg Gate between 14:00 and 22:00. Thousands are expected to attend the rallies and clashes cannot be ruled out.
Separately, demonstrations at the Brandenburg Gate and Mauerpark have reportedly been scheduled for Sunday, August 2.
A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any protest site.
Those in Germany are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
