Thousands march over housing issues in Sao Paulo on July 30; avoid all protests as a precaution

At least 5000 people took part in a protest in Sau Paulo on Thursday, July 30. The march was organized by the Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) to demand the release of resources for housing and the end of evictions and repossessions by landlords during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The demonstrators marched towards the Palacio dos Bandeirantes whilst practicing social distancing and wearing face masks. It is indicated that the march passed off peacefully.

Further demonstrations over the issue are possible over the near term. A heightened security presence and localized disruption to transport are expected in the vicinity of protests.


Those in Sao Paulo are advised to avoid all public demonstrations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and anticipate localized disruption near any protest sites.
