One person died and three others were injured after a landslide occurred in Pyrénées-Atlantiques department (Nouvelle-Aquitaine region) on Friday, July 31. The incident took place at around 15:00 (local time) in the Kakuetta gorges, a popular tourist area. The landslide has been linked to a storm the previous evening, combined with high temperatures on Friday. Relief operations were ongoing as of Friday evening and the gorge has been closed until further notice.

Residual disruption is expected in the vicinity of the gorge over the near term as relief operations continue.
