Flooding in Nangarhar province causes damage and kills at least 16 on July 31; disruptions likely

Authorities in the eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan have announced that at least 16 people had been killed and dozens of homes damaged following flash flooding in Koz Kunar district on Friday, July 31. The casualties included 12 children, with a further four children reportedly missing.

Associated disruptions to business and travel are likely in affected areas over the near term as rescue operations are underway.  


Those in the Nangarhar province are advised to monitor local weather reports in the near term, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate power and transportation disruptions, and avoid wading or driving through floodwaters.
