The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that they had detected an attempt by unidentified individuals to place explosive charges along the border fence with Syria in the Golan Heights on Sunday, August 2. A group of four suspected militants was spotted near an IDF outpost, and was fired upon by an army unit lying in ambush as well as by an IDF aircraft. The four were reportedly killed, with no Israeli casualties. No group has yet taken responsibility for the attempted attack.
Further attacks along the Israeli border with Syria and Lebanon are possible in the near term, as are retaliatory Israeli attacks.
Those in the Golan Heights are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate a heightened security presence, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
