On Monday, August 3, Tropical storm Hagupit strengthened into a Typhoon in the East China Sea. Typhoon Hagupit is forecast to continue as a Category 1 equivalent hurricane in the near term. The storm is expected to make landfall in China's southeastern Zhejiang Province in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, before weakening northwards to eastern mainland China. Hagupit was recorded 180 km (110 miles) northeast of Taipei, Taiwan, at approximately 14:00 (local time) on Monday. China's national observatory issued a yellow alert for Typhoon Hagupit on Monday, which is expected to bring torrential rains and flooding to south China.
Those in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
