Air India Express repatriation flight IX1344 overshot the runway at Calicut International Airport (CCJ; Karipur; Kerala state) on Friday, August 7, causing it to crash on landing which resulted in at least 15 fatalities and dozens of injures. The plane reportedly broke in two after it skidded off the runway before the fuselage fell into a nearby valley. Rescue operations in the area are ongoing. The flight was carrying 190 passengers and crew and had been operating as a repatriation flight for Indian nationals and residents in Dubai. A government official stated that heavy rains and poor visibility caused the incident as the area experiences monsoon season conditions.

Disruptions to flight operations at CCJ are possible in the near term. A heightened emergency presence is anticipated near the crash site, and localized traffic disruptions are also likely in the area.

Individuals in Karipur are advised to monitor developments, avoid the area of the crash site, and heed all instructions issued by local authorities.
