A wildfire in Cherry Valley (California) is ongoing as of Saturday, August 8, and according to reports is only thirty percent contained. The 'Apple Fire', which started on July 31, has now spread some 121 sq km (47 sq mi), causing the closure of multiple parks and hiking trails.

Separately, the National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of poor visibility across Morongo Valley (San Bernardino county; California), potentially disrupting Highways 62 and 247. Evacuation warnings remain in place for multiple areas in Riverside and San Bernardino counties (both California).

Further spread of the fire is possible in the near term. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
