At least two civilians were killed on the afternoon of Sunday, August 9, when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the PD5 area of western Kabul. Five Afghan National Police (ANP) officers and a further two civilians are also reported to have been injured in the blast that occurred at around 15:50 (local time), although casualty figures are yet to be confirmed. The IED is believed to have been concealed in a trader's cart at the roadside and targeted a passing ANP patrol.
Localized disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the incident in the near term due to ongoing emergency response and security operations.
Those in Kabul are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
