The Municipality of Red Lake in Ontario advised on Monday, August 10, that residents should evacuate the area due to an ongoing wildfire. Reportedly, as of Wednesday morning, August 12, the fire has grown to 750 hectares in size. In the statement issued on Monday, authorities stated that air transportation was being arranged with Emergency Management Ontario to ensure all residents would be able to leave Red Lake. The blaze is reportedly three km (1.8 mi) south of Red Lake and three km west of Highway 105. A temporary shelter has been set up at the Dryden Arena/Recreation Center.

Further spread of the fire is possible in the near term. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.


Individuals in the vicinity of the fire are advised to monitor the situation, avoid the area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
