Unions to hold demonstrations nationwide on August 14 and 15 to condemn authorities’ response to COVID-19; avoid all large gatherings as a precaution

The Central Unitary of Workers (CUT) union is set to hold a demonstration at the Plaza Uruguaya in the capital Asuncion at 16:00 (local time) on Friday, August 14. Demonstrators are gathering to denounce the government's handling of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, and alleged corruption.

Separately, other union organizations and civil society groups have additionally called for related nationwide gatherings to be held at 08:00 on Saturday, August 15. Government buildings are likely flashpoints for protests.

Localized overland travel disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any protest site.
