Police arrest rioters in Schilderswijk (The Hague) amid unrest August 11-14; follow authority directives

Police arrested multiple youths on the night of Wednesday, August 13, through to the early hours of Thursday, August 14, in The Hague's Schilderswijk area. Reports indicate that fire hydrants have been opened, roads have been blocked, fireworks have been set off, and police have been pelted with stones amid the unrest. It is not clear why the riots have broken out. Riot police were deployed on Wednesday evening to control the unrest, and Mayor Jan van Zanen of The Hague has reportedly put in place additional measures should unrest continue, although it remains unclear what these measures entail.

Similar incidents have been reported in Schilderswijk since Tuesday, August 11.

Localized overland travel disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any protest site, along with a heightened security presence.
