Local police reported that at least 11 people have been killed and 27 others are still missing following a landslide triggered by heavy rains in the Jugal Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok district (Bagmati Pradesh) on Friday, August 14. Five people injured in the landslide have also been airlifted to hospital. Thirteen houses were completely buried by the debris and over 30 others suffered damage. The police and military have been deployed to carry out rescue operations, which are ongoing.

Disruptions to transportation are likely in the vicinity of the incident as emergency services continue rescue and recovery efforts. Further rainfall and associated flooding, landslides, and disruptions are possible in the region over the near term.


Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding and those prone to landslides, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
