The Khmer New Year holiday (locally known as Choul Chnam Thmey) is held from Monday, August 17, to Friday, August 21, following a delay in celebrations due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The holiday falls annually in mid-April. A high rate of road incidents usually occurs during the holiday. A heightened security presence will be established at checkpoints nationwide in an effort to ensure road safety. Other security measures and associated disruptions to transportation and business are to be expected during the holiday.
Individuals in Cambodia are advised to monitor the situation, allow ample travel time, and obey instructions issued by local authorities
