Motorcyclists to demonstrate nationwide on August 21 to denounce decree restricting motorcycle use; anticipate disruptions to overland travel

TIMEFRAME expected from 8/21/2020, 12:00 AM until 8/22/2020, 11:59 PM (Europe/Nicosia). COUNTRY/REGION Cyprus

Motorcyclists are set to gather across Cyprus on Friday, August 21, to denounce a controversial degree restricting the use of motorcycles. Reportedly, the demonstrations are set to commence at 19:00 (local time), and are set to form convoys of no more than 50 vehicles in order to adhere to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) measures. Each convoy will reportedly conclude with a rally at the following locations: Ayia Napa's Water Park parking lot, Larnaca's Europe Square, Limassol's Enaerios parking lot, Nicosia's GSP Stadium parking lot, and Paphos' Stelios Kyriakides Stadium parking lot.

A heightened security presence and localized disruption in the vicinity of the rallies should be anticipated.

Those in Cyprus are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
