Police fired tear gas and scuffled with groups of football fans in Paris during the evening of Sunday, August 23, following the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain FC (PSG) and FC Bayern Munich. In the vicinity of Parc des Princes, a dozen fans threw projectiles at police and attempted to break through the security barrier erected around the stadium. A large crowd gathered on the Champs-Élysées following the fixture leading to scuffles between some fans and police. Police also used tear gas to disperse a crowd in the vicinity of Porte de Saint-Cloud. Unrest had also been reported prior to the fixture when officers fired tear gas to disperse those who had been throwing projectiles at them at Parc des Princes. Police have so far carried out six arrests in relation to the unrest.
Further clashes between football supporters, and between security forces and football supporters, cannot be ruled out.
Those in Paris, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public gatherings as a precaution, anticipate transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
