At least two people were killed and several others were wounded after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Wanlaweyn district (Lower Shabelle region) on Monday, August 24. Reports indicate the explosion occurred at the entrance to a local market. Security forces cordoned off the area. Unconfirmed reports suggest that a military base located adjacent to the market was the likely target. No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the incident.

Localized disruptions are likely in the area in the near term due to ongoing security operations and clean-up operations. 


Those in Lower Shabelle are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
