Wildfires in northern Cordoba province have forced hundreds of people to evacuate as of Tuesday, August 25. At least 35,336 acres (14,300 hectares) of land have been consumed by the fires in the departments of Punilla and Ischilín in recent days. Both the provincial and national governments have deployed air support for firefighters tackling the blaze on the ground. However, strong winds and dry conditions are expected to continue to spread the fires. The cause of the fires remains unknown, however, it is suspected that they began when farmers were clearing land for agricultural production.
Further spread of the fires is likely in the near term. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
Those in the vicinity of the fires are advised to monitor the situation, avoid the area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
