Police are reportedly responding to a suspected shooting in the Lozells area of Birmingham on Wednesday, August 26. One person is reported to have been injured in the shooting close to a Sikh temple at the junction of Lozells Road and Wheeler Street at around 12:35 (local time). The gunman is believed to have fled the scene of the incident towards Gerrard Street, where police operations are ongoing. A police cordon has since been established around the area of the incident and Lozells Road has been closed at the junction with the A34. The motive behind the shooting is currently unclear but the area has a history of incidents linked to gang violence.

Localized disruptions are likely in the Lozells area in the near term due to the ongoing police operations.
