On Thursday, August 27, hundreds of people demonstrating against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gathered in Tel Aviv and Haifa. In Tel Aviv, the crowd marched from Rabin Square to the Kiryat Hamemshala government complex on Menachem Begin Road, where they blocked traffic in both directions. Protesters also attempted to block the Azrieli junction but were prevented by police. In Haifa, traffic was disrupted in the Karmeliya neighborhood on Moriah Boulevard. A significant disruption to transportation was reported in both cities. Despite the protests not having the appropriate permits, police allowed them to go ahead relatively unhindered.

A heightened security presence is to be expected around protest sites. A disruption to transportation is likely in the vicinity of demonstrations.

Protests have been reported throughout Israel, particularly in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, in recent months over the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Anger over the issue has been compounded by pre-existing anti-Netanyahu sentiment, with the Prime Minister facing three criminal cases over alleged corruption.

Individuals in Israel are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
