Officials in Nagpur district (Maharashtra state) announced on Sunday, August 30, that more than 14,000 people have been evacuated after heavy rainfall over the past two days triggered flooding across several tehsils in the district. Mouda, Kamptee, Parseoni, and Kuhi have been the worst-affected tehsils. Several villages in neighboring Gadchiroli district have also been affected by the flooding. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army have been deployed to assist with response efforts.
Although rains are forecast to ease in the coming days, residual flooding and associated disruptions are expected over the near term.
Those in Nagpur district are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
