One person was killed and three security personnel wounded as a result of a car bomb which detonated at a checkpoint in Kirkuk province on Tuesday, September 1. The incident occurred at the Mariam Bek checkpoint along the Kirkuk-Tikrit highway. No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack.

A heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of the incident in the near term and further attacks are possible.


Individuals in Kirkuk province are advised to report suspicious objects and behavior to the police, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
