DRC: Protest planned in Kinshasa for September 4

DR Congo News Alert

Protest scheduled outside the Rwandan Embassy in Kinshasa for September 4; avoid all demonstrations

TIMEFRAME expected from 9/3/2020, 12:00 AM until 9/5/2020, 11:59 PM (Africa/Kinshasa). COUNTRY/REGION Kinshasa

A protest is scheduled to take place in Kinshasa on Friday, September 4. The demonstration has been organized by activists from the Fight for Change (LUCHA) and Filimbi movements and has been called for to demand the removal of the Rwandan ambassador, Vincent Karega, following controversial remarks he made on social media regarding the involvement of Rwandan nationals in a 1998 massacre in South Kivu Province. The demonstration is scheduled to take place in the form of a sit-in from 10:00 (local time) and will be held outside the Rwandan Embassy on Avenue de la Justice.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of the Embassy.

Those in Kinshasa are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution.
