The outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) political organization and insurgent group has called for strike action in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, to take place on Sunday, September 6. The group has called for a total shutdown in the districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mahabubabad in Telangana, as well as in the district of East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh. The strike comes following the recent death of a CPI-Maoist member, with Indian officials stating the individual died in clashes with security forces, while CPI-Maoist alleges the death was an extra-judicial killing.
A disruption to transportation and business is likely in affected areas for the duration of the strike. A heightened security presence is likely, as CPI-Maoist insurgents may target individuals or businesses that do not take part in the strike, as well as symbols of government authority.
Individuals in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are advised to monitor developments, keep a low profile, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
