Heavy rain caused flooding across West Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, and West Kalimantan provinces between Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6. At least 4864 people across West Kalimantan have been affected by flash flooding and landslides whilst in Melawi Regency one person was killed. Some 12,800 people in South Kalimantan were affected by the overflow of the Satui River in the villages of Sinar Bulan, Sejahtera Mulia, and Sungai Danau, where 221 others were also displaced. In West Sumatra, at least 200 houses were damaged by flooding caused by the overflow of the Harau River in Limapuluh Kota Regency, affecting some 780 people.
Alerts for heavy rain have been issued for all three provinces for Monday, September 7, and Tuesday, September 8, with moderate to heavy rainfall forecast in these areas until Wednesday, September 9. Disruptions to transportation, business, and utilities are likely.
Those in the affected area are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
