Afghanistan: Security forces kill Taliban militants in Khost province September 10

Afghanistan News Alert

Security forces kill at least 12 Taliban militants after attacks in Mosa Khail district (Khost province) on September 10; further militant attacks expected

TIMEFRAME expected from 9/11/2020, 12:00 AM until 9/14/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kabul). COUNTRY/REGION Khost, Mosa Khail district

At least 12 Taliban militants were killed and five others injured by security forces overnight on Thursday, September 10, in clashes which took place in Mosa Khail district (Khost province). According to government sources, the militants attacked multiple unspecified Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) positions. Large numbers of weapons and ammunition were reportedly seized by the ANSF following the attacks. There have been no immediate confirmed reports of casualties among security forces. The Taliban is yet to comment on the attack.

Similar attacks targeting security forces are expected across Afghanistan over the near term.

Taliban militants launch attacks on government personnel, security forces, and civilians in Afghanistan on a near-daily basis. Such assaults are, in part, intended to undermine the perceived capacity of the ANSF - and the Afghan government more broadly - to adequately provide security in the wake of the withdrawal of most US-led NATO forces from the country.

Those in Afghanistan are advised to avoid the affected areas, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments. The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
