An anti-quarantine protest was held in Caaguazu on Friday evening, September 11, to denounce government-imposed restrictions related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Participants of the protest gathered at the main roundabout at PY02 to demonstrate against recent comments by Health Minister Julio Mazzoleni who stated that further restrictions could be forthcoming if cases continue to rise.
Previous related demonstrations have remained peaceful. However, associated business and transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of the protest, as well as a heightened security presence.
Multiple protests have been held throughout Paraguay in recent months over the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those in Caaguazu are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and large public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
