A sandstorm engulfed Polatli and Haymana districts of Ankara province on Saturday, September 12, prompting the Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology to issue a warning regarding reducing visibility. Ankara Governor Vasip Sahin said that six people were injured during the storm, which began at approximately 15:00 local time. Since late last month, Ankara has been going through a dry period and heatwave. The Directorate also issued a warning of strong winds and sandstorms for the neighboring province, Kırıkkale, in central Turkey.
Individuals in or planning travel to the Ankara area are advised to monitor weather reports, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. Contact your airline for more information regarding potential flight disruptions.
