Members of the Unitary Front of Workers (FUT) are calling for protests in Quito and other major cities across Ecuador on Wednesday, September 16, to urge a response from the government to increasing levels of unemployment in the country. In Quito, protesters will gather in front of the Social Security Center from 16:00 (local time). It is likely that further demonstrations will also take place in Guayaquil, Cuenca, and Manta, with thousands of protesters expected to gather in affected cities.
Associated business and transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of the protest, as well as a heightened security presence.
Those in Ecuador are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid all protests or demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
